Small Weddings & Elopements · Croydon

Twenty minutes down the hill, and glad of the short drive.

I'm based in Caterham, so Croydon is my nearest town of any size and a good chunk of the weddings I'm asked about happen there. Plenty of them are register office ceremonies, over in less time than it takes to park. Those are some of my favourite days to photograph, because nothing about them is for show.

Whether you're booking the Clocktower room for sixty people or the small room for the two of you and two witnesses, the job is the same. I stay out of the way, catch the day as it goes and hand you back photographs that look like the people who were in the room.

Croydon Register Office

Three rooms, and which one fits your day.

The register office sits on the ground floor of Croydon Town Hall on Fell Road, and it runs three very different ceremony spaces. Knowing which one you've booked tells me almost everything about how to photograph it.

The register office itself takes you, your partner and two witnesses. No other guests, no music. The Arnhem room seats up to 35 including witnesses and is meant for a small, simple ceremony. The Clocktower room is the traditional one and seats up to 65 including witnesses.

The smallest room is the one that books up fastest, often half a year ahead, so it's worth checking dates with Croydon Council before you fix anything else. Fees and availability change, so take theirs as the current word, not mine.

If you'd rather have the ceremony and the party in one place, Croydon has a licence list worth a look. Addington Palace on Gravel Hill and Coombe Wood House on Coombe Lane both sit in proper grounds. Coulsdon Manor on Coulsdon Court Road and Birch Selsdon on Addington Road are the closest to my side of the hill. Oaks Farm at Shirley and Shirley Park Golf Club on Addiscombe Road round out the ones I'm asked about most.

Marrying nearer home instead? I've a separate page for weddings in Caterham, and I cover Purley, Coulsdon, Redhill, Reigate and Oxted from the same doorstep.

What couples say afterwards.

Two of the messages that mean the most to me.

Elena took photographs of our wedding. We are very happy with the results and all the effort she put in to make sure we were satisfied with them. Thank you, Elena for capturing our special day so wonderfully!

Common questions

Which room at Croydon Register Office suits our numbers?

There are three. The register office itself takes the two of you and two witnesses, with no other guests and no music, which is the classic elopement. The Arnhem room seats up to 35 including your witnesses and is built for a small, simple ceremony. The Clocktower room is the traditional one and seats up to 65 including witnesses. The smallest room books up fastest, often six months ahead, so check dates with Croydon Council early.

Can we marry in Croydon if we live in Surrey?

Yes. You give notice at the register office for the district where you live, then you can marry at any register office or approved venue in England or Wales. Croydon is often the nearest option for couples in Caterham, Purley and Coulsdon, since Surrey runs its own offices at Leatherhead, Guildford and Weybridge.

How much is a wedding photographer in Croydon?

Elopements start at £750 for up to three and a half hours. The Intimate day is £1,250 for six to seven hours and up to 30 guests. The full Small Wedding day is £1,750, up to ten hours and up to 60 guests. I am based in Caterham, about twenty minutes away, and travel within 30 miles is included.

Can you photograph the ceremony only?

Yes, and register office weddings often work exactly that way. A ceremony in one of the smaller rooms can be over in twenty minutes, so the elopement package covers the ceremony, the paperwork, the confetti outside and portraits somewhere nearby afterwards. If you want me to stay for lunch as well, we can talk about that when we chat.

Getting married in Croydon?

Tell me your date and which room you've booked. We start with a chat. I also photograph weddings in Caterham and across Surrey and South London.

I reply within 24 hours.
