Autumn Sessions

Short, warm and done before anyone gets cold.

People ask me every autumn for something shorter than a full session. Something quick, in nice light, that gets them a handful of photographs they'll keep, without losing half a Saturday to it. This year I'm running exactly that.

These are the first short sessions I've opened up to families, so there are only eight. Four on the Saturday, four on the Sunday, in Caterham. Late afternoon, when the light drops low behind the trees and everything turns gold for about an hour.

You get twenty-five minutes. I don't pose anyone. We walk, the children do what children do, and I photograph it. That's the whole method, and it's the same one I use on every family session I shoot.

The exact spot is being confirmed. Queen's Park is the front runner, and I'll email you the moment it's settled. Nothing is being charged until then, so putting your name down costs you nothing and keeps your place in the queue.

The small print, in plain words

What you get, and what you don't.

Included

Twenty-five minutes somewhere lovely in Caterham. Eight edited photographs, delivered in a private online gallery within two weeks. One family group. Dogs welcome, and encouraged.

Not included

Choosing your own date or location, extended family groups and outfit changes. Two things you can add once you've seen the gallery: a print at £35, or every good frame from your session rather than the eight, at £45. If you want the proper version, The Story is two hours somewhere of your choosing, with the whole gallery edited, at £299.

Once the location is settled I'll send the exact meeting point and a what3words pin, so nobody spends their twenty-five minutes looking for me.

Recent work

The kind of thing we're after.

A few frames from previous family sessions. This year's autumn photographs will be added here after the seventeenth.

Before you book

The questions I get asked.

A few things worth knowing before you pick a slot.

Is twenty-five minutes really long enough?

For this, yes. We're in one spot, in good light, with no travelling between locations and no outfit changes. Children tend to give you their best fifteen minutes anyway, so the format plays to that rather than against it. If you want a longer, slower session that follows you around, book The Story instead. That's two hours, wherever suits you, and you get the whole gallery rather than eight frames.

Where exactly will it be?

In Caterham. I'm confirming the exact spot at the moment, and Queen's Park is the front runner because it's central, easy to park at and the light through those trees in late afternoon is lovely. I'll email you as soon as it's settled, before any slots are handed out, so nobody commits to somewhere they haven't seen.

What happens if it rains?

I hold Saturday 24 October as a backup date. If the weather makes the shoot impossible I'll move everyone across to it, and I'll make that call the day before rather than leaving you standing in a field wondering. Light drizzle is usually fine, and often rather beautiful, so I'll only move it for proper rain.

How many photos do we get, and when?

Eight edited photographs in a private online gallery, ready within two weeks. Two things you can add afterwards, once you've seen them: a print at £35, or every good frame from your session rather than the eight, at £45. Nothing is decided on the day, so there is no sales pitch at the end of your twenty-five minutes.

Who can come, and can we bring the dog?

One family group per slot, so parents and children. Dogs are welcome and always improve the photographs. If you want grandparents, cousins and the wider family in the frame, book a full session instead, because twenty-five minutes won't do a big group justice.

Eight slots, and then that's autumn.
